IT Marketing: Know the Decision Maker

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Know exactly whom the decision maker is that you're trying to target before you start your IT marketing and prospecting. In this article, you'll learn why it's extremely important that you define as tightly as you can who the decision maker is, and how to do that.

If there's a particular industry you're trying to reach with your IT marketing, getting to know the decision maker will be a lot easier. Once you know your niche it's going to be a lot easier to find the trade groups, to find the lists you need to run to, to find the conferences you need to go to, to figure out what hot buttons you want to hit, and who the decision maker is.

How do you find the correct decision maker or contact person within the company that you're targeting for your IT marketing? How would this differ in a 10-person v. 50-person, v. a 100-person office?

So the basic question here is with your sales and marketing efforts, what's the role, what's the job title, what kind of person are you looking to reach?

IT Marketing: The Two Most Likely Contact People

In most small businesses, you're going to find two types of main contact people. You'll find the person you want to reach, signs the checks or the purchase orders, or the contracts or the purchase authorizations. I sometimes call that the P&L person because they're responsible for the profit and loss statement of the company. This may actually be the owner or a partner, especially in smaller businesses.

Person number two is the internal guru. That's the one everyone tends to yell for when there's computer problems, but taking care of computer problems isn't their full-time job. They generally have another job within the company. Sometimes it's an office manager. Sometimes they're the executive or administrative assistant, but they're the one that everyone yells for when something goes wrong with IT.

When in doubt, simply ask who's wearing each hat. Who's the person that makes the financial decisions on major IT purchases? Who's the person that when the laser printer jams up or the Internet connection goes down? Who's the one on the phone with the technology vendor? The answers to these are a good starting point to find the person you need to for IT marketing

The 7Ps of Marketing Mix

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Marketing professionals and specialist use many tactics to attract and retain their customers. These activities comprise of different concepts, the most important one being the marketing mix. There are two concepts for marketing mix: 4P and 7P. It is essential to balance the 4Ps or the 7Ps of the marketing mix. The concept of 4Ps has been long used for the product industry while the latter has emerged as a successful proposition for the services industry.

The 7Ps of the marketing mix can be discussed as:

Product - It must provide value to a customer but does not have to be tangible at the same time. Basically, it involves introducing new products or improvising the existing products.

Price - Pricing must be competitive and must entail profit. The pricing strategy can comprise discounts, offers and the like.

Place - It refers to the place where the customers can buy the product and how the product reaches out to that place. This is done through different channels, like Internet, wholesalers and retailers.

Promotion - It includes the various ways of communicating to the customers of what the company has to offer. It is about communicating about the benefits of using a particular product or service rather than just talking about its features.

People - People refer to the customers, employees, management and everybody else involved in it. It is essential for everyone to realize that the reputation of the brand that you are involved with is in the people's hands.

Process - It refers to the methods and process of providing a service and is hence essential to have a thorough knowledge on whether the services are helpful to the customers, if they are provided in time, if the customers are informed in hand about the services and many such things.

Physical (evidence) - It refers to the experience of using a product or service. When a service goes out to the customer, it is essential that you help him see what he is buying or not. For example- brochures, pamphlets etc serve this purpose.

Wedding Planner Marketing Tips

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The wedding planner life is the only one I'd like to lead. I love to see couples find the ways to have their perfect day, and I absolutely love being able to help them do it on their own budget. Solving problems, working with people, and just being around weddings is a great career, so I love what I do. The only problem wedding planners have is marketing. There aren't too many wedding planner marketing tips that are just floating around there. But there are a lot of wedding planners, and it can be hard to make myself stand out in the crowd. If I was going to give advice about wedding planner marketing tips, there are a couple of things that I would be sure to say.

First of all, as a wedding planner, one of the biggest wedding planner marketing tips that I can come up with is making sure that you've got a solid business plan and you are professional. You've got to know what you are doing right off the bat so that you'll be able to do it well. You also have to always present yourself in a professional way. Remember that part of wedding planner marketing is making sure that you can work with all kinds of people, from couples getting married to in laws, to florists and DJs. You are going to have to plan this whole thing out, so be sure that your people skills are up to date. One of the biggest wedding planner marketing tips you can have is to always, always be friendly and polite. You have no idea how far a good word can go. If one couple likes you, they'll recommend you to a friend. Business is easy, that way.

But you've got to get your name out there. I learned that the hard way, having no work for quite some time. Finally I realized that a web site is a great idea, because couples who are getting married like to see what I've done before. I put up photographs from weddings I've planned, and testimonials from couples who like me. I've also put up lists of what I do and what I charge for those services. With this information online, it is super easy for couples to decide that they'd like me. The hardest part is making sure that they know my address. I got an easy to remember website address, and started plastering it all over town. I took out ads in magazines that catered to brides and grooms, and made sure that I stuck it at all sorts of places. I even got some florists and DJs to say that they'd keep some of my cars and recommend me. In turn, I usually use them when I need those services for a wedding. That kind of networking can be the best of the wedding planner marketing tips because not only does it help you get business, it also helps you during your own business. No matter what, I always remember that if I want to be a successful wedding planner, I've just got to get out there and do it.

Effective Marketing Skills

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Being able to network effectively for marketing purposes is a skill. You might even say it is an art. There are plenty o f prospects all around you but you likely aren't seeing them.

Every single day you pass by prospects unawares. It's because you haven't trained yourself to see them yet. It takes some effort and discipline, but you can get better at finding new prospects to grow your business.

Here's one basic question that I want you to think about. How often do you talk to people when you're out and about? You should be talking to people regularly. Follow the 5 foot rule. Anyone within 5 feet of you, whether in a store or elevator or wherever, speak to them politely and briefly.

After you have broken the ice, gauge whether they seem receptive to ongoing conversation. Ask a question like "what do you do for a living?" Depending on how they respond, see if you can't continue the conversation. They may hint, or even outright state, that they are ready for a new opportunity to come along.

If they note that they are receptive to new opportunities, try a line like "I have something I think you might want to look at. Would you be interested?" Your next move is to give them some sort of tool such as a website or a reference. If you can, get their card so you can call them with more information.

If you do this regularly you will find that you come across literally dozens of opportunities every day. Can you imagine how that might build your business? Even if you only talk to 5 new people each day it would be a big difference.

If you spoke to even five new people each day, how do you think that would affect your network marketing business? You'd have a lot more prospects in line that is for sure! Your business would take off exponentially. They might even refer their friends to you as well.

Start using that 5 foot rule the next time you are out. You can't be shy if you want to grow your business. Your network marketing prospects will multiply so quickly you'll hardly believe it. Along with this, your income will almost certainly skyrocket.

The Successful Marketing Plan

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The successful marketing plan is often seen as an elusive, unobtainable ideal that you read about in large marketing text books.

This widely held perception is most likely the result of people or businesses trying to market something (or someone), but being hampered by a lack of resources. And I use the term resources in the widest possible sense of the word.

The bottom line is that most marketing plans are not worth the paper they are written on simply because they are often cobbled together in a rush, using inaccurate information, and exacerbated by a poor understanding or knowledge of the specific target markets etc etc. In other words, Rubbish in = rubbish out.

The final nail in the coffin of most marketing plans is where you find them - usually in the bottom draw under a pile of files gathering dust until it gets hauled out for review before the next financial year!

So what are the ingredients of the successful marketing plan? There are many, but lets settle on covering the basics.

The successful marketing plan will:

1) be concise and user friendly.

2) be written by somebody who understands the business, and where that business is going.

3) be realistic and practical in all respects.

4) have specific measurable outcomes matched to specific marketing actions.

5) be used as an integral part of the day to day running of the business.

If you ensure that your marketing plan meets these simple criteria then you will be better off than probably 90% of the businesses that you compete with.

And the benefits of taking the time to craft a successful marketing plan should be obvious to all - marketing activities that are not only focused on your target market and therefore more likely to maximise returns, but that are achieved within budget.

Now wouldn't that make a pleasant change!

You're Never Too Old to Learn Internet Marketing

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Internet marketing is a marketing strategy of the new age, which is a great way to improve your business prospects. Unlike traditional advertisements, Internet marketing is a continuous process that ensures a constant publicity of your products or services. There are some free Internet marketing tools that can help you a lot in starting with this process. Once you start receiving positive feedback by employing these methodologies, you can move on to a more sophisticated and comprehensive package.

Free marketing tools can be divided into two broad topics, that is, the sources that will give you adequate knowledge about Internet marketing and the actual tools that will help you carry out the project.

Free E-books and Guides
There are many free e-books and guides to give you comprehensive theoretical knowledge about Internet marketing. Theoretical knowledge is essential because it acts as a foundation for the practical implications. If you are aware of the different strategies and aspects of Internet marketing and can also comprehend the reasons behind them, then you will be able to modify any strategy according to the need of your business. However, for more advanced knowledge, these free guides might not be adequate and you might want to upgrade to paid services.

Free Internet Marketing Tools
There are many free Internet marketing tools available in the market. The Google Keyword Tool and the Yahoo! Keyword Tool are free guides for finding the relevant keywords for your business. You can use the keywords that induce more search volumes and advertisement, as this will give you a better search engine ranking.

You can also use other free tools, such as Head Checker Tool, Keyword Density Analyzer Tool, or Overture tools that can help you select the appropriate keywords and let you analyze your website from the search engine spider's point of view. You can download these tools from various online resources. Many of them come for free only for a trial period, but some of them are absolutely free for any amount of time.

It is very difficult and time-consuming to manually perform technical functions, such as checking a large volume of header tags, meta tags, back links, keyword density, etc., manually searching the keywords or relevant SEO data. So if you are a serious Internet marketer, you will need to use the Internet marketing tools at some point of time.

Many of these provisions are completely free, and you can certainly use them to fulfill your initial requirements. But with the passage of time, they might become insufficient, especially if your business is on a continuous growth mode. In this case, you can hire professional services, which will deal with your online marketing strategies without bothering you about every detail.

So free tools are great start up apparatuses, but you might want to upgrade to paid services once your business starts producing positive results.
