The PEN Story

This is the PEN Story in stop motion. We shot 60.000 pictures, developed 9.600 prints and shot over 1.800 pictures again. No post production! Thanks to all the stop motion artists who inspired us. We hope you enjoy :-) Some of the comments we have read here suggest that we should mention the creator of "A wolf loves pork", Mr Taijin Takeuchi. While we were looking for a way to realise a story describing "a journey through time" based on printed images, we were inspired by Mr Takeuchi's brilliant work. For this reason we intentionally quoted his work in our little movie while showing full respect to his original idea. We didnt mention his name because we did not want to do so without his prior agreement. However after considering some of the comments posted here we have decided to add credits to him and his work, which we obviously absolutely love.

Downturn Marketing Strategies

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The advantages far outweigh the drawbacks during a downturn when viewed from an online marketing perspective.

Every dollar spent on marketing whether online or offline give you much more during a recession if you apply your resources in the right way, like your ability to get the maximum from you publisher with your negotiating skills. If you take it positively, this is a god-sent opportunity for a marketer to get more return on your investment on marketing and advertising of your products.

Actually, businesses benefit more during a downturn provided you continue investing in marketing and advertising. This can be confirmed from various studies conducted by highly-acclaimed researchers. If you compare the statistics, you will notice that those businesses that promoted aggressively their products always gained 4% to 5% in market share when compared with their competitors who did not hike their spending on marketing/advertising during a downturn.

The key factors that you should take into account when marketing and advertising during a downturn are:

Customers: You know very well that in any business, customer is the king. It is highly recommended to provide all benefits to your customers like discounts and gifts and extra facilities like free downloads and free tools to help the customers to get more value from their online experience. This will ensure your customers will come back again and again to your business and thereby generate more sales.

Flexibility: For you to be flexible, you should be alert and oriented of your customers search behavior pattern. In other words, monitor your customers for what actually they are searching for, and then change your marketing/advertising strategies accordingly. Any rigid approach on your marketing strategy will backfire on you.

Cost-Affective Targeting: Please note that not everybody will succeed in cost-affective targeting. For any business to succeed, you should have certain key elements like well-known brand name, multiple products, targeted advertising, after-sales service, and support. These key elements are vital for any business to succeed. Any missing elements will have an adverse effect on your cost-affective targeting.

If you have studied recession or downturn long enough, you will find that this phenomenon does not last longer than 11 months or a year. Take recession positively, study it well, and apply your marketing and advertising strategies accordingly without compromising or downgrading your marketing and advertising costs. The key elements like well-known brand name, multiple products, targeted advertising, after-sales service, and support are to be incorporated into your business if you want to succeed.

Microprocessor Marketing Wars

[Recorded November 20, 2009] Ever since the launch of the 4004 microprocessor in 1971, AMD, IBM, Intel, MIPS, Motorola, National, Sun, Texas Instruments, Zilog and many other major corporations have fought epic marketing wars to establish their chips as the engines of choice for multiple generations of computers. There were battles over technical specifications, performance benchmarks, software architectures, RISC, 32 bits, and much more. Over the years, the fight shifted from one for hardware design engineers hearts and minds to a battle for those of the computer companies CEOs', and ultimately, for those of the consumers themselves. This combative environment drove the evolution of spec-based to brand-based microprocessor marketing. This panel discussion focuses on how the marketing of microprocessors changed as the semiconductor industry grew at unprecedented rates during the 1970s thru the 1990s. Learn about the events and the decisions that shaped the both the semiconductor and computing industries. Wonder at how annual chip marketing budgets ballooned from $100000 to over $1Billion in less than 20 years. The panelists and moderator for this session were all protagonists in these microprocessor marketing wars at three of the major players: AMD, Intel and Motorola. - Jack Browne: Hi End Microprocessor Marketing Manager, Motorola, 1981-1992 - Dave House: Intel SVP - General Mgr, Microprocessor business, 1978-81, 1982-91 - Claude Leglise: Intel 8086-8088-286-386-486 ...

Marketing Requires Creativity

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Marketing is the lifeblood of any business. Without an effective marketing campaign then sales of even the best product will be mediocre. Before you even plan your marketing steps it is necessary to step back and review to whom you will be selling. Without this knowledge then marketing is but an exercise in the dark.

Ideally you will be marketing to a small niche audience. Owners of small businesses often make the mistake of attempting to sell to a broad audience. Mass marketing campaigns require deep resources and extensive expertise. Small businesses are far more suited towards selling to a smaller market which could be narrowly defined.

A narrow audience allows delivery of a custom message. For example, let us assume you own a travel business. Attempting to engage in a broad postcard marketing campaign would not be feasible. However, if you focused on one niche like eco travel, then full color postcards provide plenty of room to amply discuss current eco travel opportunities.

Postcard printing is an effective and economical path to connecting with a niche market. Other opportunities exist online. Creativity within your online marketing is very important. There are myriad competing web sites for all subjects under the sun. To be noticed you must employ all the creativity within you.

Banner ads, cross promotional arrangements and participation within social networking forums are just the start. Businesses can employ all types of techniques ranging from contests to referral bonuses. Each business is unique as are its clientele. Programs need to be crafted to be most attractive to your given niche audience.

Trade shows are excellent forums for creative marketing. From the diversions at your booth to your promotional items you must give great scrutiny to design, colors and the underlying motif. Also important is durability. A promotional item like a notepad which is quickly used and thrown away represents waste of your marketing dollars.

Creativity is needed when selecting these items. Try to pick one that fits your given industry. For example, a pocket screwdriver is a great promotional item for those in the construction and electrical trades. Be creative, however you must stay within parameters of appropriateness for your market.

Creativity does not necessarily entail being loud or wild. It simply represents thinking out of the box. Find new ways of doing things. Postcard printing provides for a very cost effective way to experiment with varying marketing techniques. Special events, sales for frequent customers, referral award programs are all creative ideas which can spur sales.

Boring marketing translates to bored customers. Test your ideas on friends and family. Tap the most creative among your staff. Use the best avenues provided for both online and offline. A creative marketing campaign is your revenue line's best friend.

Measuring Marketing Results - 5 Key Steps

Image : http://www.flickr.com

We all want to make sure we get the best return on our marketing investment, whether it is advertising, email marketing, telemarketing or any other type of lead generation activity. There are very few business people who would seriously debate that point - and especially in these trying economic times, you want to make sure that every pound or dollar is well-spent.

The ability to measure marketing results is one of the key marketing skills that any business should be continually trying to improve. Why, then, do I often see companies marketing and not doing enough to properly measure the results? In business, as well as in life in general, there is a well-used management process that goes something like this:

1. Plan
2. Execute
3. Review
4. Return to step 1

Each time we move through this loop, we should be getting better at what we do. Carrying out each step thoroughly is important if this approach is to work for you.

Now, focusing on step 3 - Review, let's take a look at the 5 key steps to help you measure the results of your marketing efforts.

Step 1 - Know the size of your opportunity
You should spend time researching the approximate size of your market. Stands to reason, doesn't it? How else can you know whether, for example, 150 new business leads per year is a good performance or not? If your market is very specific, there might only be 300 companies you can sell to. In this case, 150 leads isn't bad. However, if your potential market is 3,000 companies, you need to look closely at how you are targeting your marketing.

Step 2 - Build in your measurement method
The 'review' step needs to be based on hard facts rather than opinion. This means building into each campaign a way of measuring success. This is especially true if you are running a range of campaigns through a selection of media (which you should be).

A letter-based campaign should include a tear-off or fax-back that carries a reference number. This will enable you to track how many inquiries come back from each campaign.

You can do the same for your email marketing campaigns by using landing pages on your web site to count responses. If you receive inbound sales inquiries, build in a question to find out where the prospect heard about you - and equally important, make sure this information is properly summarized and reported.

Step 3 - Measure through to the sale
It's a proven fact that sometimes a marketing campaign that yields a good number of inquiries results in very few appointments or sales. Measuring only inquiries will mislead you into doing more of the same campaign activity - whereas if you track each campaign through to sales, you would make a different decision.

Step 4 - Review your results regularly...
It's all very well measuring your marketing campaign results, but of course you must also take the time to review the results and decide what they are telling you. You should do this at least once per month.

Step 5 -... and have an open mind
One of the big benefits of measuring your results properly is that it takes away much of the 'opinion' about what is the right marketing. You may well have people in your company who 'swear by' a particular way of marketing. Quite simply, measurement will either support that opinion or it will not... and the evidence will be clear for all to see.

So, if you want to focus on the key marketing skills that your business needs in order to prosper, take a close look at how all this could apply to you.

In article marketing, viral marketing is effective. What happens is the fact that you distribute your article to several different directories and ezines. Other webmasters, probably have a use for your article, and place it on their website, which includes the viral effect you are looking for. The greater site owners that place your article on their website and the more lookup directories or ezines you publish on, the greater exposure for your web business.

Having signatures as well as author bios with link backs aimed at your web are very important, and when your current articles are well-distributed by way of viral marketing, you receive plenty of back links aimed at your website, increasing your site's PageRank and position in search engine result pages (SERPs).

Here are a few facts to consider when composing your own signature or authors bio box:

Include things like your name or Company Title - This really is definitely important to displaying authority and experience of your own field.

Include things like one particular offer - No more than one particular offer! Something such as a free e-book, a unique price, or any other type of offer that may attract your reader.

Fundamentally, article marketing is probably the best ways to advertise and get targeted traffic aimed at your website and online business. Just remember to keep it within causes. Overdoing your current submissions or even spamming web directories or articles will result in retrenchment of your respective articles or perhaps the web directories suspending you against utilizing their products and services.

Part 2 What Makes You Sexy - BBC Explorations

First Impressions are what count. Which physical features light the flames of passion when we see a stranger across a crowded room? And why do women's faces subtly change over the course of every month? What makes you sexy and attractive to the opposite sex? Everyday, attraction starts the same way for millions of people around the world with a glance. But which physical features light the flames of passion when we see a stranger across a crowded room? The signs of beauty turn out to be the same the world over and were biologically programmed to spot them. And its all because beauty is the bait we use to attract a mate. Surprisingly, the very first impression we make on other people often has nothing to do with our faces or our figures. Its the way we move. Good movers are sexy because they come across as fit, healthy and co-ordinated. And that means they're likely to have good genes. Just what you want in a partner with whom you might start a family. When it comes to beautiful faces we reveal that symmetry is the key. To prove this theory leading experts at the University of St Andrew's in Scotland analyse the faces of two models, Hannah and Jason. Incredibly, experiments at the University of Newcastle in England have found women's faces become more symmetrical and attractive to men when they're ovulating. Its a bombshell revealing that, like many animals, human females can become more desirable to males when they're ready to conceive. And a woman's monthly cycle has ...

An Effective Marketing Strategy

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Effective marketing focuses on organizations energies and resources on a course of action which leads to profitability and dominance of a targeted market niche. It is therefore most effective when it is an integral element of overall firm policy, by defining how the organization will successfully engage customers, prospects and competitors in the market arena.

Marketing strategy determines the choice of target market segment, positions and allocation of resources. It combines product development, promotion, distribution, pricing and relationship management.

TACTICS AND ACTIONS OF MARKETING EFFECTIVELY

o This serves as the basis of a marketing arrangement which contains a set of specific actions required to effectively execute a marketing strategy.

o A strategy consists of well thought out series of procedures to make a marketing plan more effective. They serve as the elementary underpinning of marketing plans intended to fill market needs and arrive at marketing objectives.

o A marketing strategy often incorporates an organizations goals, policies and action sequences (tactics) into a cohesive whole. You can cascade an approach through an organization by creating strategy plans that then become strategy goals for the next level.

Real life marketing revolves around common sense, dealing with a limited number of factors in an environment of imperfect information and limited resources complicated by uncertainty and tight time scales, marketing managers use instincts and experience to analyze and handle the complex and unique situations being faced without easy reference from theory. A marketing strategy should therefore be centered on the key concept that customer satisfaction is the main goal.

Marketing Exam Success

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Imagine you are sitting in the marketing exam. The question paper is on the desk and you have been told to wait until you can start. That is the worst time. Trying to remember the quotes, names, models etc etc. Will the revision pay off? There are a few key steps to take right now to help you to gain the best marks.

I have marked hundreds of marketing exam papers. Students fail as they answer the question they had revised. They dump loads of data on the basis that they know it and that is good enough. Timing is a problem for many people and also the ability to understand the question.

Rules.

1 Read the question and look for the key words. Examine what you are expected to do. You will see terms such as examine, evaluate etc. That does not require you to describe only every marketing concept you know.

2 Plan your answer paper. Look for all of the questions you intend to answer. Plan them all so you don't overlap and repeat yourself

3 Break the answer plan into the 3 parts of the 'magic formula'

Concept- what is it? ie marketing segmentation is...

Apply- how does it work? Show you understand, use examples. Read the marketing press and take a few topics to make sure you can cover across a range of subjects.

Evaluate- how useful is this? What does market segmentation tell me. How does it help the businesses I have included? What challenges does it present? This stage is where you earn the higher marks. Here you might mention that customers are becoming more demanding and with different needs. So businesses need to be able to customise and yet be able to make profits.

4 Timing. We rarely write these days. So practise writing an answer. Make sure that you know exactly how much you can write in 30 minutes. Don't over run, be strict leave space and move on. You can return and remember quality not quantity

Hope this helps you to pass your marketing exam.

Marketing Ideas For Law Firms

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The legal profession is highly competitive, and in the 21st century, law firms need to market their services just as other business enterprises do. Many marketing ideas and strategies will work effectively for law firms. By adopting these strategies as part of a comprehensive marketing plan, a law firm will be able to increase its client base and revenues over both the short and long term.

In order to effectively market a law firm, it is essential that a comprehensive marketing strategy be developed.

Of course, this may seem like common sense on first blush--and it is to some degree--most law firms in business today lack a comprehensive marketing strategy. Law firms tend to take a piecemeal approach to promotion and marketing. They tend to make marketing decisions "on the fly" without any real consideration as to how one marketing effort will harmonize with other promotional efforts.

Because marketing and promotional budgets are not endless, a firm can get the most mileage out of those funds by expending them in a coordinated fashion. Moreover, a comprehensive marketing plan allows a firm the ability to have a blueprint for its promotional efforts that ensures all of the bases are covered.

Another strategy suitable to a law firm is niche marketing. In niche marketing, advertising pitches are directed toward that segment of the population that will be most interested in the product or service being offered.

Many law firms tend to specialize. Therefore, promotional and marketing ideas need to target particular niche markets. For example, if a firm specializes in corporate or business law, its marketing efforts need to be geared toward connecting with the owners and managers of corporations and businesses rather than appealing to the community at large.

Another marketing strategy that a law firm should employ is what can best be called the "personal touch." The attorneys in a firm should take a hands-on approach to marketing the services of the firm.

An example of how a law firm can pursue the personal touch in marketing and advertising is by having the attorneys in the firm make public presentations at civic meetings. Civic groups are eager to find speakers for their events. Lawyers are naturals in this regard.

Providing some pro bono services is also a solid way of establishing a respected professional presence in the community. Through pro bono work a firm is providing a solid service to people who otherwise cannot access legal representation and assistance.
